Back to square one…
It had to happen one day (as we all know, all good things must come to an end…), and even though we added a few stops to really enjoy the Périgord, we had fewer and fewer kilometres left to reach Andorra… So there we are, done! The circle is complete…
-
Inland…
We left the ocean to head inland, hoping to find some peace and quiet, far from the hordes of tourists invading the coastline… So here we are in the Périgord, discovering the different facets of this pretty, rather peaceful region, from the banks of the Charente to the east of the Brive Basin…
-
Kenavo Breizh!
This week, we left Brittany to reach Vendée, not without first playing Moses and parting the waters to reach the island of Noirmoutier, which, for a few hours a day, naturally transforms into a peninsula..
-
To the West…
That’s the inspired title of the regional tourism magazine in Brittany (although the play of words really only works in French), since this week we left Normandy (in style) to head to neighbouring Brittany. We are now in the land of Asterix, menhirs, and crêpes (and Calvados, marinières, bagpipes, Kouign-amann, and… lots of other things!) 😁
-
Dune(s)…
A somewhat unusual format this week, due to a temporary pause in our adventure. We’re still in Cherbourg, and everything is going well, but family circumstances meant we had to take a break and let Marvin enjoy a few days of vacation in the Cotentin Peninsula…
-
Free!
Our crossing of England was shorter than expected. It must be said that the country did nothing to keep us there any longer, and the discovery of a ferry line to France closer than the port of Dover was undoubtedly a sign… So here we are in France for the final part of this adventure, on the Normandy coast…
-
Farewell Scotland…
We left the coast and the ocean to explore a little of inland Britain. We also left Scotland this week to head to England, with a beautiful finale in Edinburgh, the Scottish capital, which offered us two beautiful sunny days to wander through its medieval-style streets…
-
The East Coast…
After a short break next to our lighthouse, in the far north of Scotland, the time has come to head south again, along the east coast this time… After some salmon-spotting and a stop at the legendary Loch Ness, we continued our journey east, towards the eastern tip of Scotland…
-
All the way north!…
It went a little faster than expected (given this country’s paucity of great places for Marvin and its rather appalling weather…), but we arrived at the very north of Scotland (and therefore the United Kingdom) and also at the northernmost point of this adventure. Despite the complications, it was worth it, with a great surprise on arrival (and there’s still the way back)!…
-
Après-Skye…
A week marked by capricious weather and a storm that “forced” us to revise our itinerary a little and spend more time on the Isle of Skye (ooohhh! the poor things!… 😜). We were able to see the most beautiful place we have seen so far in Scotland, before leaving the island and going a little further north, between mountains and small fjords…
-
On our way to the Highlands…
First steps in Scotland after a “false start” and a forced return to Glasgow to change Marvin’s rearview mirror, which was blown up by a campervan… The weather has, unfortunately, returned to “normal,” so we’re trying to “buy time” while waiting for a bit of sunshine, so as not to do too much sightseeing in the rain…
-
One last round…
Well, here we are… we’ve arrived in the very north of Ireland… Just enough time to enjoy the moment, and here we are, off we go again with a new country in the bag, since we’ve entered Northern Ireland (that is, the United Kingdom)… To mark the occasion, we’re trying out a new design for the posts (let us know what you think about it…).
-
The Northern Counties…
From Mayo to Donegal, via Sligo and Leitrim, here we are in the northern counties of Ireland, between spectacular cliffs and immense white sand beaches. What’s more, the good weather continues, something never seen before in Irish memory! 😁
-
Summary of the sixth stage…
Sixth week in Ireland, crossing beautiful Connemara and spectacular Achill Island. A still closer to the northern border, but still a lot to discover ! 😍
-
Walk on the water…
From the Connemara mountains, dotted with hundreds of black-water lakes, to the cliffs of Achill Island, passing through Ireland’s largest fjord, this 6th part brings us closer to the north of Ireland and takes us from Galway to County Mayo, just before the wild northwest…
-
On the edge…
We’re officially in the northern half of Ireland… Well, more or less… Let’s just say we’ve crossed the Shannon and that marks an important step in our journey north. It’s also the beginning of the cliffs (the real ones, the highest ones), and of the Galway region…
-
Blowing in the wind…
Another week exploring County Kerry and reach the Shannon, Ireland’s largest river, which estuary is already 100 km long. All this in rather extreme weather, which seems to demonstrate that the Wild Atlantic Way lives up to its name…
-
From peninsula to peninsula…
We continue our journey north, this week with Bantry Bay and the Beara Peninsula, and we leave County Cork (it might not seem like it, but it’s big!…) to reach County Kerry, and therefore, the peninsula of the same name… And on the way, we go back to a more… Irish weather…
-
Bagpipes, ghost ships, and gray seals…
As expected, the weather quickly returned to sunny, even if the wind didn’t really ease. But nothing could have stopped us from exploring the surroundings of the Comeragh Mountains, so we set off to conquer Knockaunapeebra, the 724m peak dominating the area…
-
First steps in Ireland…
First week in Ireland after a dream crossing from Bilbao, and so far, the Emerald Island is welcoming us with magnificent sunshine! So all those stories about it raining all the time here are just unfounded rumors?… 🤔
-
Summary of the first stage…
Yes, it’s true, the video is longer than usual, but it sums up the two weeks of this first stage, which took us from Andorra to Bilbao. Plus, the soundtrack is really good, and there’s even a surprise at the end (for those who will have held out this far)… 😁
-
Mosquitoes don’t like blue…
The storms follow one another and are strangely similar… Lots of rain and a night in a blizzard were on the agenda for the last few days, before the sun finally returned and we could finally enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Navarre…
-
Running errands…
A short break in Huesca, where we took the opportunity to get Marvin’s AdBlue hose repaired, and also to get a new SIM card to get internet again. We also decided to stay here while waiting for Storm Laurence to pass, so as not to be in the middle of the desert at that moment. In short, a logistical stop… before heading off again!
-
From the snow to a semi-desert……
So here we are, off on a new adventure, this time on the Atlantic coast of Europe (you’d think we got a taste for the rain last year… 🤔). After 5 months of almost being sedentary, it was high time to rediscover the thrill of adventure aboard Marvin! For these first stages, we left the snow-covered Andorran peaks (better late than never) to reach a desert, or more precisely, a semi-desert, on our way to the Atlantic…
-
Wild Wild West…
After about 5 months of being sedentary, it was high time to get back on the road (and resurrect this blog at the same time)……
-
Time to take stock…
It’s a bit difficult to turn the page and think about what’s next… We always tend to delve back into the memories of the last seven months, whether looking at photos, merging the GPX files of each stage to have the complete itinerary of the adventure or choosing a project to which we would allocate our carbon offset…
-
This is just goodbye…
The adventure ends after 7 months and 19 countries visited. Back to the starting point, in Andorra, where it all began, on 13 March this year. A few small administrative details to sort out, and we will be ready for the next adventure. After this extraordinary experience, we are not going to stop there!…
-
Finish line…
Taking advantage of the brief moments without rain to take two or three photos, we crossed the Alps and are inevitably approaching the finish line. This week, we followed the diminishing reliefs of the Alps until the Rhône Delta to end the week surrounded by water and flamingos, in the Camargue National Reserve…
-
From lake to lake…
The week started at the foot of the Alpine glaciers and ended, after a tour of the Italian great lakes… in an Iveco workshop! After more than 30.000 km without complaining, Marvin had a small burnout. But nothing serious! We are back in the mountains already!…
-
Ups and downs…
The week started with an invasion of thumbtacks that drove us out of our riverbed. Luckily, the Dolomites are still as wonderful as ever and we spent two days there among spectacular mountains. Bad weather pushed us south, but to end the week on a high note, we are back above 1.700m…
-
After Boris…
Four countries in one week! We left Budapest just before storm Boris hit, skirted Lake Balaton to Croatia where we spent a night by the Drava River, drove through Slovenia from east to northwest, and arrived in Italy for the weekend…
-
Monumental capital…
After a few more days in Slovakia, we continued our journey south to Hungary and its spectacular capital, Budapest. Two days (re)discovering the city and filling our eyes and memory with incredible images of the city’s amazing buildings, during the day and by night…
-
Back in the mountains!…
Another week in southern Poland, discovering Krakow before crossing the border and entering the 15th country of our journey: Slovakia!… We are back in the mountains with the impressive Tatra massif, and have also climbed our first peak on this side of Europe…
-
Great Plains…
One week following the eastern border of Poland until we got close to one of the border crossings with Ukraine. We discovered the primary forests and the European bisons, and also the Great Plains of Central Europe and their endless fields……
-
The Baltic Way…
After an amazing weekend in Karosta and its fortifications, we spent this week crossing Lithuania diagonally to the east and discovering this peculiar country and its stormy history, before settling down near the border with Belarus to rest before the next stage…
-
Shadows of the past…
Last few days in Estonia before moving on to Latvia, where the Scandinavian influence seems to be coming to an end. This week, we have explored the past with our pass through Russia and very visible remains of the Soviet era all over Latvia. It is a change of scenery, but it is equally incredible to be able to still explore “the shadows of the past”…
-
Back on the coast…
A week wandering on the west coast of Estonia, along the Baltic Sea. For a change from the mainland, we “hopped” to the island of Saaremaa before continuing our journey south.…
-
Across the Gulf…
This week, we left Finland and entered Estonia with two “urban” stops, one on each side of the Gulf of Finland. We are now on the southern side of the Baltic Sea, back on the mainland after all this time in Scandinavia…
-
Too hot!…
A gastronomic and cultural week during which we tried one of the most popular Scandinavian customs and took an “urban” break to enjoy an opera…
-
Following the border…
From lake to lake and forest to forest, we continued our route south through Finland. This week, we left Lapland to enter (briefly) Northern Ostrobothnia…
-
Heading south again…
We started going south again after the North Cape (we couldn’t go any further north anyway… 😜). This week, we said goodbye to Norway and…
-
At World’s End…
Here we are. After 14 weeks of traveling from the southernmost point of continental Europe, we arrived at the northernmost point of the European continent:…
-
Beyond the polar circle…
That’s it! We are less than 100 km away from the North Cape, but to make this adventure last longer, we have decided to stop…
-
A case of conscience…
We already talked in a previous post about the problem of overtourism in Norway. The days went by and, despite the country being truly spectacular, we felt increasingly worse due to the lack of respect shown by many vans and motorhomes towards the local people. So this week, we made a decision and changed plans a little…
-
In the land of trolls…
After 2h40 on a ferry, we arrived in Norway, the last country on our list until the North Cape. Just the time to disembark and we had already crossed our first fjords, circled dozens of lakes, seen hundreds of waterfalls and regained some altitude… We were also totally horrified by the tourist overcrowding here. The heads and tails of the same country, in a way…
-
The country of happy people…
One week to cross Germany. It’s not that the country is ugly, but between the floods in the south and the general ban on staying anywhere other than a motorhome parking lot, the truth is that we really want to get to Denmark soon!… 🙂
-
German week…
One week to cross Germany. It’s not that the country is ugly, but between the floods in the south and the general ban on staying anywhere other than a motorhome parking lot, the truth is that we really want to get to Denmark soon!… 🙂
-
Reaching the border…
Last week in France before crossing the border. Just enough time to visit the famous vineyards of Burgundy and their Grand Crus, the no less famous vineyards of Alsace and, between two rainstorms, marvel at the immense forests and spectacular landscapes of the Vosges…
-
In the land of volcanoes…
-
Back in business!…
Back to the adventure after a short two-week break. We are heading back north to the Massif Central or, more precisely, its foothills since this first stage takes us to the Larzac plateau…
-
Noah’s ark…
The Weather App on our phones has become our best friend… We no longer even consider moving without looking, first, if we have a remote possibility of being able to leave Marvin at one time or another… Venturing down dirt tracks? Don’t even think about it!, at least during a few days… We are beginning to feel a little like Noah in his ark, sailing from point to point to find a place out of the water to be able to moor ourselves… 🤓
-
Weather change…
Sixth week of travel, marked by a significant change: we have gone from blue skies and summer temperatures to having to turn on the heating again and look for alternatives for rainy days. This week, gold mines, bear territory, some caves and our return to the ocean…
-
Do not proclaim freedom…
One more week to cross a good part of Castilla y León, visit 2 countries, 4 provincial capitals, many cathedrals, and to discover that they lied to us!… The land of the Great Bustard is not Cáceres but Zamora!…
-
The Siberian steppes…
Still on our way, we are about to enter the northern half of the Iberian Peninsula, but first, this week, some little pigs, some Roman mosaics, a trip through Siberia and four great bustards…
-
Heading North!…
Week 3 After reaching the southernmost point of the European continent, we have already started moving up north again. This week, a fortress in danger,…
-
The southernmost point of Europe…
Day 0 The Mediterranean on the left, the Atlantic Ocean on the right, the mountains of Morocco just ahead, 36º0’10″N 5º36’34″W, altitude: 0m… that’s it,…
-
Andalusia diagonally…
Week 2 The weather forced us to modify our route a little. As a result, we left the heights of the Sierra de Cazorla to…
-
Don Quixote and the windmills…
If Cervantes had been born in the 21st Century, there is no doubt that his Don Quixote would also fight against windmills, but it would…
-
The elusive Navarre…
It’s not really that we don’t like it, on the contrary, but Navarre seems to slip through our fingers as soon as Marvin sets its…

Great adventures…
“A journey of a thousand miles always begins with a first step”… It was Lao Tzu who said it, and he was undoubtedly right. A…

Cape to Kapp…

The bellowing of the stags
In the end, we decided to postpone our return for a day. After all, there’s no real rush to get home. So, we returned to…
